Dr. Seuss Week
3/08/2014As many of us teacher folks are aware, this past week was Dr. Seuss' birthday! Horray! At my work, the littles don't celebrate Dr. Seuss until Earth Day... why, I have no idea. So, regardless, I wanted to celebrate our favorite author by reading our favorite books and of course, doing crafts! I found all of these inspirations on my Pinterest board.
Here is a quick look at all of our crafts last week. We started off with making Thing 1 and Thing 2, littles were allowed to pick which thing to make and went to town. As you can see, they didn't exactly follow the given color scheme of blue and red, but that is ok! It creates creative minds! Then we made hand fish and of course Dr. Seuss hats!
After coloring our hats, the littles picked their favorite Dr. Seuss book to read. Then, they then went through and picked out words from the book. You could make this portion much more advanced, for example have your students write rhyming words or use these hats as family word trees. The possibilities are endless but I stuck with something more simple for the littles. We didn't end up wearing them, but they looked fabulous on our little wall space in the commons.
After spending time on Pinterest looking for ideas, I'm so excited that for next years Dr. Seuss week, I'll be student teaching and IN THE CLASSROOM! There are so many great ideas out there that I can't wait to try! If you celebrated Dr. Seuss week, what were your favorite activities?
